Hex head cap screws feature a thick, hexagonal head with a washer face under the head to provide an ample bearing surface for tightening with a wrench. Hex cap screws are general-purpose threaded fasteners designed for insertion in petapped holes or for use with nuts.
Hex head cap screws come in a variety of sizes, finishes, grades and threads. The most popular hex cap screws are the grade 5 steel bolts with a zinc finish. When looking for outdoor use or a stronger bolt the grade 8 yellow zinc plated bolts are a better choice. The name hex cap screw and hex bolt are commonly interchanged.
